Reid: Caress The Thought
Reid: Caress The Thought
Rufus Reid, one of the forefathers of the all encompassing bassist, being a live and studio performer, educator, Guggenheim fellow, ever “evolving bassist” and composer presents to us “Caress The Thought (Expressly for Diana Gannett)”, a piece that has catapulted Mr. Reid into the realm of composing for solo double bass. Sonically, it sounds as if the Molto Adagio section of the Hindemith Sonata and Saint-Saens’ Havanaise birthed a beautiful baby. The piano part is bound by a plastic spiral with special consideration towards page turns. The piece comes with both Solo tuning and Orchestral tuning parts included, and is printed largely on a high quality paper. A fine addition to the solo bass repertoire that would make a great piece for any recital! Here’s what Mr. Reid had to say about the piece: “I do know this, I wish I could play it like Diana played it. She is a special individual and an incredible musician. I wrote the music with her sound in mind. I am totally thrilled and honored that she liked it well enough to perform it. This is a composer’s dream, I think, to have their music rendered well beyond their expectations. Diana surely has done that for me. She has empowered me to continue to write more for the bass in this way, which is truly a new area for me.”
