For true Bottesini fans THIS is the most "over the top," flashiest, crowd pleasing composition that Giovanni Bottesini ever wrote. This piece of about fifteen minutes length, has everything from "alligator tears" pathos to "the Hero saving and winning the heart of the 'Damsel in Distress'," to an "audience on their feet" dramatic ending. AND it has five (count them) FIVE cadenzi opportunities for the soloist to show what he or she is truly made of (or to make a complete fool of themselves). This work should always be in the standard repertoire for any "hotdog" bass soloist! It has also been incorrectly called the concerto #3 but records show that Bottesini first performed it when he was twenty years old.
