Bosch: Dittersdorf Complete works for solo double bass
Meridian Records is thrilled to announce the much anticipated release of the Complete works for solo double bass, a further double bass hidden treasure discovery by Leon Bosch of the composer Carl Ditters von Ditterdorf.
On this recording, the esteemed bassist Leon Bosch joins with violist Robert Smissen and the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields, to produce as he describes in his own words "one of the most memorable highlights on my musical career".
On his passionate reasoning for bringing this whole project to fruition, Leon explains:
"Ditterdorf's second concerto for double bass was one of the first concertos I ever performed, with orchestra, and it made quite and impression on me at the time (I was probably about 18 years old then). I was duly inspired to explore more of Dittersdorf's music, and soon realized that whilst the 2nd concerto was terribly popular and had been recorded, the 1st concerto and indeed the Duetto remained inexplicably neglected. Recording this particular disc and bringing together all Dittersdorf's compositions for the double bass has therefore been particularly satisfying at a number of levels: it firstly realizes my youthful commitment to exploring, performing and recording all of Dittersdorf's works for the instrument, and it has secondly afforded me the privilege of recording with The Academy of St Martin in the Fields, the orchestra which I look upon as my musical home".
